Processed meat is the type of meat that is being preserved by different ways and technologies as canning which is a way of preserving meat using a pressure can, salting and it’s one of the most ancient methods of preserving meat, smoking which is also a very ancient and easy method and it makes the meat very flavorful, drying also is widely used as it’s a very easy method it could be either through sun or modern technology dehydrator, freezing using freeze dryer or simply chilling the meat in a 4 to 1 degree Celsius.

During any of these procedures there are addons as preservers and stabilizers that are being used to ease the processing, increase the shelf life of the meat, increase its nutritional value and make it more appetizing.

Processed meat includes both red and white meat as poultry, beef and mutton.

The global market of processed meat is growing, market size was assessed by 6.8 billion for the year 2021, and an anticipated growth of 6.8% to reach 9.7 billions by 2026.

This growth is driven by many factors as the consumers preferences that are being shifted towards demanding ready to eat and ready to cook meat, and the awareness and more acceptance of processed food.

Despite the increasing demand on processed meat because of its competitive prices, Egyptians still does prefer fresh meat over the processed products, and any prices decreasing in fresh meat, the processed meat industry will be negatively impacted.

Egypt is committed to allocate substantial funds to increase and advance the domestic production of processed meat, as it’s very essential to keep up with the demand on high quality food for the increasing population.

Most of the processing plants have been established and constructed outside of Egypt in countries like Tanzania.

Entrants for the Egyptian market of processed meat shouldn’t always be targeting the end consumer or using the traditional distribution channel.

Many of the raising hospitality services as restaurants are consuming processed meat.

The biggest share that processed meat is being pushed through using traditional channels, are mini markets which stands for 93% of the whole chain value.

It’s the same for small scale food services projects as trucks and startups, it’s requiring and demanding good quality processed meat for its production and this demand could be a good opportunity for the new market entrants.

As mentioned earlier the only obstacle for growth in the processed food market is health issue concerns, but since there are actions that are being taken towards reform it’s going to rocket boosted, especially in Egypt, once there is enough awareness regarding these reforms the processed meat is going to dominate in the near future for it’s easier ways of consumption and lower prices.
